EDI Pinup by DarklordIIID EDI Pinup by DarklordIIID
This was a little gift for a friend of mine who's had a rough patch recently.

EDI is one of the least appreciated characters, IMO, in the Mass Effect Fan art community. And unfortunately when she is there, it's usually a...less than dignified presentation. Heh. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a good scantily clad woman as much as the next guy (and this robot was designed for combat as much as my 300 was) but still, just good, clean pics of her are hard to come by.

Even harder to come by is a picture of her that's rendered well. Sketches and drawings are one thing, but many pics featuring her in game model are just straight up...wrong. There's no other word for it. I went to great lengths (with help from Grace) to make sure mine wasn't in that category.

I ended up using a car paint shader (sans flakes and edges) to give her a metallic sheen and a subtle reflectivity. The visor is a standard glow shader, nothing too special there. And of course there's the Normandy back there, which I thought we just had to get into the pic. Can't have EDI without the SR2. :D

Also, an M90 Indra. Because reasons.

Thanks for looking!

The guns in mass effect are so ridiculous.

Eh, they're not so bad.  Compared to some games like Doom, Quake, or Borderlands I'd say they're pretty mainstream.

I'm not mad or anything but do you know how the mass effect guns work?

It varies.  You've got the really out there ones like the Reaper Blackstar that fire tiny molecules that, when broken by impacting solid objects, create small tears in space time.  But the vast majority just shave "bullets" off of chunks of tungsten, and using a rail-gun type mechanism, fire them at about light speed, adding a ton of mass in the process via a reverse use of the tech behind mass effect drives in ships.

True. My point is that even with ow high tech there weapons are there ammo is cooling clips. Cooling clips! They couldn't come up with a better reason for the guns not to have unlimited ammo. That's why they seem ridiculous to me.

It actually makes sense, the ammo is live-forged in many cases, using similar technology to the omni tools.  The process generates a lot of heat, but unlike the tools, which fabricate slowly and have a lot of surface area to cool, the ammo is fabricated in the firing chamber without much ventilation (and you'd want it hot anyway, to add punch to the shots.)

It would create no more heat than igniting gas into plasma, or accelerating a projectile through a rail gun. I think they could have come up with a better system.

Fabricating matter from energy is one of the most catastrophic processes available to perform in our universe.  See "inside of a star."
